Welcome to the Wet ‘n’ Wild Weekend Tairua Saturday and Sunday the 22nd and 23rd of March

The Tairua community welcomes all Jet Ski owners to their 1st Wet ‘n’ Wild Weekend, with the emphasis being on water sports activities .

This event is a community sponsored weekend event for the Tairua Township and is being sponsored by the community with thousands of dollars’ worth of product prizes being available for all the activities planned for this great weekend.

Below is the relevant Jet Ski event information for the Tairua weekend, including information for other Jet Ski activities on and off the water.

For the general public reading this information, that are not associated with normal Jet Ski Racing, we are creating for the 1st time, an event where as you as a Jet Ski owner have the opportunity to come and test your own personal skills on your own craft, as a family scenario weekend.

This means other family members can share your Ski to compete in the public section of the racing format, yes as long as you are of legal age of 15 and have experience operating your family’s craft; you are welcome to come and participate over the 2 days of planned activities .

This weekend’s concept is to create a regular annual event, which will grow over time as more and more like mind people find out about these activities .

A meet and greet evening is planned for Friday evening the 21st at The Pepe Licensed Café & Restaurant, being the 1st commercial building on your right as you exit the bridge leading into town, ample parking in the reserve car park next door is available for all the trailers.

For our 1st event we have created 2 forms of Jet Ski Fun Racing events.

Firstly we have a General Public participation event, yes we will be operating a Slalom course which will be timed and controlled using normal Jet Ski racing parameters, with Safety being the paramount aspect of this event.

So this will mean only 1 Jet Ski on the course at any given time and in true Jet Ski racing fashion, it will pit rider ability against machine and the elements.

Our second form of racing is what we call Closed Circuit racing, where as competitors are formed into classes with their craft and race each other around a controlled circuit, for a set number of laps.

This is by far the most exhilarating experience you can have on a Jet Ski in these controlled conditions, yes intense action is the name of the game and experience is vital for success in this form of racing.

Please be aware that due to all the unknown factors of this 1st event at Tairua, we will have the option to change and adjust our program, to suit certain aspects with regards to participation entry numbers ok.

Please also note that all general Maritime water rules still apply to all water areas outside of the exclusion zone area being used for the racing, 5knots within 200mteres of the shore and 5knots within 50meters of all other craft and all swimmers are still applicable to all areas and the local Harbour Master will have his Patrol boat and at least 1 Official Jet Ski operating on the water to assist with the events activitys.

So ALL Jet Skiers are reminded that you need to obey all signage and water regulations in this amazing area, as there will be a lot of people watching you!!

For those of you interested in competing in this event, please go to our events Web page at http://www.tairuawetandwild.com/  and click on the Program section to get a copy of the entry and Indemnity Forms.

As well as supplying some racing for the weekend, there will be a number of different activitys regarding Jet Skis with demos being provided by a number of very talented people from around NZ, including wake boarding: Freestyle: Trick riding: Fly boarding: Jet Flying:

A couple of other aspects that we wish to start up for this great new exciting weekend, are activitys for Jet Ski Owners in general, yes we would like to invite all Jet Ski Owners along for a Show and Shine display of your loved craft, with a very interesting aspect being the VINTAGE Section!

Yes folks were looking for the Oldest Jet Skis in New Zealand, to attend and to let everybody get to see what our sport looked like, ways back when the technology was in its birth stage compeered to now!

The Show & Shine will be held on the Pepe reserve beside the competitors parking area, with access via the Corey/Rugby Park side entrance, which is on Manaia Road, being the 1st Right turn after crossing the bridge into town, due to the main Pepe Reserve parking area being full of community activitys and stall holders. (Arrival and attendance completely up to the individual)

Now getting back to the present, we would like to invite all the new Seadoo SPARK owners along, with the option to maybe set up a Spark Owners Social Club; also we have a long term goal of creating a Spark Class in our Racing fraternity.

Not forgetting all the other amazing brands and makes of Jet Skis on the market in NZ, we would really like to see them all come and attend our newest Jet Ski event in the North Island, as with such a diverse and amazing array of skis on the market, it will be an amazing event with their presence all in one place!

Given the location and opportunities of this amazing township, we envisage that a lot of you may be interested in going on a group ride out over the bar, for a ride around one of the local Islands and as Jet Ski Safety dictates, riding in numbers is the safest way to operate out on the water, So for all of those likeminded Jet Ski Owners that would like the opportunity to attend an amazing event, with a Show and Shine of your loved Ski with the option of going for a great social ride to fill the afternoon in, please book your accommodation in Tairua ASAP ok!!

Tairua Info Centre http://www.thecoromandel.com/Tairua/ or the accom section http://www.tairuawetandwild.com/

We have identified that for the likes of Jet Ski riders that go for a ride in the afternoon, the water landscape will have changed considerably from when you left, as far as water coverage. So we have produced a basic map of the 2 full time assessable boat ramps for your assistance over the weekend, thus being a tidal estuary.

The Pepe Reserve Pits area for the racing side of things, will only be for the competitors boats due to it being a race course and the fact of no water being their later in the afternoon.

Also along with the Jet Ski Racing side of activitys the township has planned 30 odd community food and market stall holders to be involved in the weekend’s activitys, as well as some company’s like:

JetSkiJunk from Auckland, being a parts and accessory supplier.

Makz Gear from Tauranga, being the local Yamaha dealer and sports accessory supplier.

Yamaha from Auckland.

Stealth Electric Bikes

And others that I don’t have the info on currently.

Saturdays evening’s activitys will be hosted at the Shells Restaurant, which is across the road from the Pepe reserve and next to the Tairua Info Centre. (Spot Prizes for Saturday evening)

Prize Giving will be hosted on Sunday evening at this venue. (Times and program agendas will be announced over the sound system throughout the day)
