The town of Tairua is on the east coast of the Coromandel Peninsula. It lies at the mouth of the Tairua River and has a population of under 2000 people.
The Tairua town decided to embrace the sport of Jet Ski racing and hold a Wet ‘N Wild Weekend. With riders turning up from as far as Dannevirke and many making the short two hour trip from Auckland, the scene was set for a fun weekend.
Paku Bay was a great location for the Wet ‘n Wild event, being sheltered from wind and with a channel close to the beach that allowed the spectators to get close to the action.
With a full sized race track set out for racers, a slalom for beginners to have a go on and Garth from Capital City Sea-doo, Wellington doing flyboard demonstration meant there was plenty of action for the great sized crowed to keep an eye on.
It was great to see a few newbies out on the water enjoying themselves and even mixing it up with some seasoned racers.
I know all of the competitors had a great time and felt very welcome in the town and we really hope to be invited back to make it a bigger and better event next year.
