Saturday the 23rd June saw Round 1 of the South Island Winter Enduro Tour held at Lake Waihola, Lake Waihola is on State Highway 1, just 30 mintues south of Dunedin. 36 Entries hearled strong feilds in both poleski and runabout so the scene was set for a good days racing.
With the weather playing the part the 45 minute poleski race which was first up, this included all three pole ski classes; open, stock and 750 – all the pole skis have a compulsery fuel stop so this means team work at pit stop time, even in a one man pole ski race this can make or break you.
This year Steve Amendes kept his feet dry and off his ski to let way for for some interesting results.
The Runabouts ski’s race two 45 minutes legs with times added together from each leg to determine the overall placings. With a total of eighteen runabouts on the water which includes all three classes; open, naturally aspirated and teams leeds to some great racing.
Just as the days racing finished, the rain came down so a hasty retreat to the Waihola pub fighting for postion in front of the fire. Southern hospitality is second to none, a very fun prize giving hosted by Mark Greives another great event run by the Southern Jet-Sports Club.
