Casting my mind to early 2011, I remember hearing Taynes name on the NZ race scene and I remember paying special attention because the rumor was he was only 13 years old and super competitive.
I’ve now had the pleasure of watching him race on multiple occasions both here in New Zealand and over the ditch in Aussie with great results. I can’t wait to see how the future pans out for Tayne…
Here is our second rider review.
Name?
Tayne Lemon (Face) have ended up with this nickname because if I’m going to hit or cut something it’s usually my face of head that takes the impact.
Where are you based & what’s your local club?
Live in Stillwater by the river and go to school in Orewa so often ride after school if there are waves.
AJSA.
What type of ski/skis?
08 1100 Super Jet for racing and a Krash Industries JB1 with 760 b pipe etc. for surf
Mechanic?
Dad does all my motor work with a bit of help and advice from those who will share. Roger Parker played a big part in the beginning sourcing us a good motor and with initial set up. Richard Webb has helped us along the way with advice here and there.
Pit Crew Supporters?
Kris ,Brad , the guys and girls in the Auckland club and the crew from Dalusion FWX.
Sponsors?
JETPILOT NZ, Orewa Beach Gym, US Skate in Orewa
Enduro or short course?
Only really competed in short course so will lean that way for now.
Your best race?
Finishing 2nd behind Trent Brown and in front of Mark Bainbridge in the last race at the Nationals in the Open class , as they are both some of the
best racers in NZ.
Career Highlights?
My win in the am/lites class at the Australian titles stands out, Also the rip n ride freeride events I have been to. My 3rd in open this year. I Really enjoy the atmosphere of race days.
1st Amateur lites in Australia 2012
3rd Open NZ in 2012
7th Stock in NZ in 2012
1st North Island Champs Open 2012
1st North Island Champs 750cc open 2012
1st in Novice in 2011
2nd in 750cc open in 2011
How many years riding / Racing?
3 ½ years riding socially with the family and with the Dalusion Crew mostly freestyle in the surf, and I have completed 2 seasons of racing. I competed in the open class in the second season after finishing 1st in novice in 2011.
What got you into racing?
Norm Macfarlane also known as Stormin, Aquanob and a whole lot of other names you can’t print. Thought I would do O.K so I jumped on an 08. Dad had a Kawasaki but it felt like being on a launch as I was pretty small there for a while so it was sold and an 08 bought for the fleet of freeride skis. That was our first race ski.
Helmet and goggles, Lifejacket, Wetsuit-bootes-gloves? (Brands)
JETPILOT Wetsuit, vest, Gloves and Boots Goggles and Helmet are Pro Grip,
Most important piece of equipment?
The helmet definitely, for both surf and racing. With high speed collisions and falling from high up can both hurt. Have also started racing with a back protector as this is mandatory in junior’s overseas this has helped with my posture when racing.
Sea or Lake? Why?
Either , as long as its water and I’m riding a ski it doesn’t bother me.
Any mentor or hero?
Richard Webb, he is an amazing rider and good friend. A great ambassador to our sport. Norm has been a real mentor with both racing and freeriding.
Most important lesson learned?
Always finish the race (if you can).
Any race goals?
To win the open class in NZ and to compete at the World finals in Havasu in 2012 or 2013 in the junior classes. Funding to get to the worlds will be the limiting factor.
Any one left to thank?
Big thanks to all the people that have helped me stay on track, the advice on racing lines etc, the quiet chats after races that haven’t gone so good or just telling me to harden up. Kris for putting up with jetskis 24/7 at home and making sure I eat and train properly and the support she gives on race day. Dad, he has put many hours even days into keeping skis going, getting my brother and I to races, the huge support he gives me and just being the best dad. Thanks.
Any suggestions for NZjetski?
Update regularly. Great site, Lots of interesting stuff
