With the invite put out last minutes from the NZ Thundercat guys to share Lake Taupo on Saturday the 27 of July 2013. The AJSRA and EBJSC worked hard organising an an event that was as much about organization and planing as it was about man and machine. I did hear one comment that the course map semi resembled an orienteering map and with what happened on the day, maybe this was true.
After the early morning fog cleared and made way for an incredible day on the lake, possibly the best day we have ever had weather wise on Lake Taupo, flat water and sunny day without a cloud in the sky.
Only a small number of competitors enter in the race due to the short notice, a very interesting fact was was all but one competitor had been involved in racing for at least 10 years or more. Our 1st timer on the day was the TJSA President Rob on his family boat, who did extremely well for his first true 100 mile enduro up against some strong competitors.
We had some excitement at both ends of the race with Mark Roscoe leading the field with quite a reasonable lead until an ski issue and then at the end of the race Grant Nicholson gave over the lead to Callum Farnell by taking the wrong direction on the last major leg, unfortunately for him he headed back to Kinloch instead of Mission Bay giving a clear lead to Team Farnell Racing.
