The Jet Ski World Finals have been and gone for another year. This year saw over 10 different kiwis from all over New Zealand take to the water and take on the rest of the world (40 countries entered in total and over 400 competitors) at Lake Havasu, USA.
Lake Havasu is in Arizona, just over 2 hours out of Las Vegas and this time of year the temperature reaches 40+ degrees celsius making it a little different from home. The event is held over a full week, with the top classes left till the last weekend.
All races have to first qualify, and then race either two or three rounds of racing
This year New Zealand managed a few podium places with Brad Clarke from Christchurch taking home a first in ‘Sports’ Class and third in’Two Stroke Stock’.
Kylie Ellmers from Tauranga also managed a first place in ‘Womens Runabout’
Mark Bainbridge from Christchurch collected a Third in ‘Amateur Vets Ski’
Trent Brown from Christchurch was lined up to take a first place in ‘GP Ski’ but unfortunately missed a buoy which made him a lap down at the end of the race.
I would like to put a huge congratulations out to all the other New Zealands that made the trip and competed.
Jonno Riley Wellington. Craig Boyd Wellington. Trent Brown Christchurch, Carl Lampe Wellington. John Wright Auckland. Cameron Miller Auckland, Gareth Griffiths Christchurch, Carl Lampe Jr Wellington & Gavin Tombs Wellington.
